Comprehensive Guide to Sage Spey Rods

Traditional Action (Steelhead) Spey rods

5120-4 12’ for 5 line. This “Super Spey Toy” has proven to be a favorite for both Steelhead and Trout.  Ideally suited for such rivers as the Rogue, Grande Rhonde and Deschutes. Also as an effective large Western Trout nymph/streamer stick.  Line Match: Rio WindCutter 5/6 (Skagit Style 8/9/10 WindCutter Body only).  Sink Tip use: 15’ 109 Grain in type 3 and 6 densities.  Reel Match: Sage 3400D, Ross Momentum 5, Tibor Everglade.

8136-4 13’ 6’’ for 8 Line. Quite possibly the “Perfect Northwest Spey Rod”. This rod has proven to be lightweight, versatile and comfortable to fish all day long with dry lines or sink tips.  Light enough for summer/fall work (Deschutes, Grande Rhonde, Bulkley, Morice) but blended with sufficient power for the Dean, Sandy and Olympic Peninsula Rivers.  If you’re buying your 2nd spey rod this year…this is it!!  Line Match: WindCutter 8/9/10.  Skagit 500 with 5’ Skagit Cheater 8/9/10, Skagit 600 Floater.  Sink Tip use: 15’ 150 grain in type 3, 6 and 8 densities. T-14 in 11’, 13’ 15’ lengths. Line Match: Rio WindCutter 8/9/10 MidSpey 8/9 or Skagit 550 with 5’ Skagit Cheater 8/9/10.  Reel Match: Tibor Riptide, Ross Momentum 6 and Sage 3500D.

9150-4 15’ for 9 line.   A versatile and all around performer for both winter as well as summer fishing.  This new breed is equally at home for both Northwest Steelhead as well as Russian or Canadian Atlantic salmon.  Sink tip use: 15’ 166 grain in type 3, 6, and 8 as well as the popular Rio 24’ Big Boy sink tips (200-300 grain).  T-14 tips as well.  Line Match: WindCutter 9/10/11, MidSpey 8/9 and Skagit 600 with 5’ Skagit Cheater 8/9/10.  Reel Match: Tibor Riptide, Ross Momentum 7.
